When at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma I and my classmate, Kelly Woodring built our own homemade camera from Masonite, a magnifying glass, an adjustment screw from a telescope, a graded piece of plastic, and a couple of old picture frames with a lot of duct tape and black paint.  Unfortunately Kelly left USAO with the contraption and I have no good images of the device to show.  I lost contact with Kelly or I would ask if he still had it around and maybe do another photo-shoot with it.  In my homemade photo gallery is the only good pictures I have from the project.
